From Aunt Joyce
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cube butter or margarine
a "dash" of salt... really, just a tiny pinch
1 tsp. soda
Melt the butter; add everything else. Bring to a boil and let it foam up! Serve it hot.
Optional: When you take it off the heat, add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Refrigerate leftovers.
